Meet and greet and your child's first week

Before care starts, you and your child visit the home for a short meet and greet, and then we ease into full days over the first week.

Get started

Dear families,

We’re excited to welcome your child! Here is how the first days usually go.

The meet and greet

You and your child come to the home for about 30 minutes to meet your child’s educator and see the space. If your child is comfortable, they can stay for about 2 hours without you. We’ll suggest a time that fits your child’s nap schedule.

A gradual first week

We ease in over about a week, so your child can get used to the new place and people. A typical plan looks like this:

  1. Day 1: the meet and greet, with you there.
  2. Day 2: a short day, 2 to 3 hours.
  3. Day 3: a longer day.
  4. Day 4: a half day.
  5. Day 5: a full day.

We’ll plan the days with you and adjust to how your child is doing.

Help us get to know your child

  • Your child’s daily schedule. Nap times, feeding times and routines help us keep things consistent and comfortable. The development and routine form is part of the online enrollment, so if you filled it out there, we already have it and pass it on to your child’s teaching team. If not, use the paper copy for your child’s age (above).
  • Family photos. Please bring or email a few family photos. They help your child know where daddy and mommy are, and we use them in family-themed activities.
  • What to bring on the first day: see the Day-1 checklist.
